Getting to Portugal from Canada is easy, whatever your means of transportation. There are four main ways to travel to Portugal: by plane, by train, by car, and by sea. Train, ferry and airfares are the most expensive during school holidays and summer (basically from Easter to September), Christmas/New YYearand Easter week. The two countries are far from each other and separated by the Atlantic Ocean. The distance between Canada and Portugal is 6687km.

The two systems are not compatible. ETIAS visa waiver permits citizens of visa-exempt countries like the USA, Canada, the UK and many other countries to enter Europe for short visits for up to 90 days without the need to obtain a Schengen visa. These countries are known as ETIAS-eligible, and you can find out more information on them on our Application page. For citizens of certain countries, such as Nigeria or Thailand, the Schengen visa can be used to enter Europe.

There is still time to submit your ETIAS request. You should not submit your application too late. Your application should be submitted at least two weeks in advance of your trip. You can submit your application up to 4 days before you depart if everything is not ready. Most cases will be processed within hours.
